House music is a genre of electronic dance music and has been the current standard for "club music" since the late eighties. Derived from disco, it typically features a hi-hat accented 4/4 beat structure in what has been onomatopoetically labeled as "uhn tiss uhn tiss". and minimalist.

House music uses many other sounds, including synths, funk, and soul. It is also the easiest genre of dance music to combine with other genres to produce a new sound, such as disco house, electro house, and tribal house.
House started in Chicago within the late 70s but didn't find real life until the 80s. DJs and remixers dipped into the disco with new sounds. DJ Frankie Knuckles played these tracks at The Warehouse, a very popular nightclub in Chicago at the time, becoming "warehouse music", or simply "house music". As for the “sound” of house music, many elements still used today can be heard in “On and On” by DJ Jesse Saunders.
